Gear Buddy Opinion
The Orb Freebird is a narrow touring ski that maintains a light weight for increased uphill performance (1500g) while remaining a functional and stable downhill performance. This ski serves as an excellent option for long days covering lots of vertical
I purchased this ski for backcountry endeavors in the spring and longer tours where I don't want to take my heavier Corvus Freebird skis. Which perform well in deep snow but were lacking in firm or icy conditions. I mounted the Orb with Salomon-MTN/Atomic-Backland/Armada-Tracer (same binding) touring bindings for a light setup. So far I've used this ski for backcountry touring in powder and found that the ski floats surprisingly well considering its relatively narrow waist at 90mm. The ski is very responsive and edges well on hard snow and ice. I would recommend this ski for someone who wants a versatile touring ski that can perform is any conditions.
