Gear Buddy Opinion

The Wayback series was developed to take you up into the backcountry and back down with confidence. These skis utilize K2's lightest weight technology and packages them in an affordable design. The 96 is a versatile option that is great for all around touring when you might be hunting pow one day and summiting peaks another.

Customer Review

These are great all-around touring or mountaineering skis. Very light, and I don't think I need to go lighter than the Waybacks because I want the durability. These ski powder well for their width. I find they have good bite on ice. I am on my second pair after the first pair bent (those were a prototype version provided by a friend who worked at K2, but I paid retail for the 2nd pair I like them so much). I use a fatter, damper ski for mid-winter freeride touring in the Cascades then switch to these for big days and spring ski mountaineering. It's nice to have the 96 waist for the seemingly inevitable schmoo section on volcanoes. I took the Waybacks to Chile in October 2019 where we skied all kinds of snow on some volcanoes.
