MTN Summit 79
Gear Buddy Opinion
The Salomon MTN line was developed for Those long days in the backcountry where weight matters, but so does the fun for the downhill. The Summit 79 is the thinnest and lightest of the lineup and was made for those missions where you spend 90% of the ascent on skins and the last 10% in the steeps boot packing.
These skis are fantastic touring machines. While they obviously struggle in powder on descents, they do quite well in shallower or firmer snow conditions or in on-piste terrain. As far as touring goes, these are great. Their light weight and small size make touring uphill straightforward and easy. Similarily, these can be easily strapped to a pack, and you'll barely notice the weight. Be prepared for people in ski shops to be impressed/slightly scared of how light your skis are, but if you are trying to move fast and light in the mountains, or get to challenging winter summits, these are a great option. I've paired these with the Salomon MTN bindings, and I think they make a great combo.
